Description:400 bs (180 kgs) in six bags plus representative sample in bag. Southwest side of south summit dredged. 2225-2000 m water depth. Volcanics - MN- encrusted, highly altered volcanic breccias and tuffs. Also, dense, silicified tuff recovered. Tectonic stress implied by highly fractured clasts and encrustations. Fractures filled with carbonates. Dendritic pyrolusite growth. Carbonates - - nannofossil chalk with scattered foraminifera. Burrowing subsequent to lithification; - white chalky limestone with many planktonic foraminifera and rounded clasts (up to 1 cm) of reddish limestone. Tentative date - Eocene. 12 buckets individually labeled 1-6
