| Description: | 30 kgs (65 lbs) in one bag + lab samples. Depths dredged 1850-2100 m. Southeast side of seamount dredged. Mn- encrusted calcarenites - fossils of benthic and pelagic foraminifera, mollusks, echinoid spires, corals, algae; ie evidence of reef environment. With the exception of the absence of Caprina rudists, the fossil assemblage is comparable to those present in RD73 & RD74, and hence t the assemblages found on Menard & Jacqueline guyots (DSDP20, Heezen et a.). The fossils indicate a Mid Cretaceous age of the reef complex. |
