| Description: | Dredge consisted of ≈100 lbs of pumice. Some very fresh in appearance some quite weathered. Sample 1 - pumice, dark grey, black bands, q + z (?) xtals, Bimodal vesiculation 2-3 mm 1-2 mm, yellow-tan alteration, glass fibrous, edges subrounded. Sample 2 - pumice; dark grey, no banding, pc & q + z (?) xtals, vesicles mode 1-2 mm, patchy yellow-tan & red-brown alteration, shape oblate spheroid, glass fibrous. Sample 3 - pumice, 1+ to med grey, faint irregular banding, pc & g + z (?) xtals; sparse vesicles, brown alteration, edges: rounded to subrounded, glass: straight fibers. Sample 4 - 3 pumice, 1+ grey, no banding; q + z (?) moderately abundant; bimodal vesic 1-2 mm 1 cm, relatively dense, Mn - red brown alteration, edges: sharp, jagged surfaces. Sample 5 - pumice, 1+ grey, no banding, no xtals, relatively dense, vesicles .5-1.5 mm, minor Mn yellow tan alteration, grooves in sample, glass sugary but locally fibrous. Sample 6 - pumice, 1+ brown, no banding, pc, q + z (?) xtals, vesicles 1 mm to 4 cm, yellow-brown & red brown alteration, edges: angular to rounded, glass: sugary & dense, locally fibrous. |
