Description:This sample consists of numerous large black and black brown Mn oxide (pyrolucite or psilomelane) encrusted masses the size of cobbles and small boulders (ranging from 3 cm, 2 cm, 2 cm to large slabs 20 cm x 7 cm x 10 cm and boulders 15 cm x 10 cm x 15 cm ). Beanth the Mn oxide coating, they generally are made up of a sort of sedimentary breccia consisting of large well rounded cobbles and pebbles of volcanic rock, inclusions of orange to oragngeish tan colored, indurated lutite, and a groundmass consisting of avery compact to indurated lutite, rich in dark volcanic and numerous heavy minerals. The volcanic rock seems to be a very fine-grained (aphanitic), vitreous ultramafic lava or possibly a fine-grained vitrious feldspathoidal lava. The most significant characteristics of this lava are (1) very little (if any) feldspar is present. (2) the groundmass seems to have a fairly high % of dark brown to brown-black volcanic glass, (3) the texture is a very fine aphanitic one, (4) it has a high color index: 50+.
