| Description: | Seventeen, nodular, block, manganese nodules and associated fragments. The largest nodules measures 24x11x10 cm. The average size is 10 x 7 x 5 cm. The insides of the nodules appear to consist of indurated medium brown lutite intimately mixed with manganese. Patches of medium brown radiolarian ooze occur on the bottom faces of some of the nodules. On others the bottom faces have ooze packed into crevices. The packed ooze makes anastomosing brown patterns that stand out aganinst the black backgrounds. Tiny worm tubes are visible on some of the nodules. Occasional larger worm tubes occur, including one that has an inside diameter of 2 mm. One nodule has a solitary stalk of some kind of marine animal, possibly a hydrozoan, protruding outward. |
