| Description: | Conglomerate type 1: Rounded basalt pebbles in matrix of whitish pink (deep sea facies) and diffuse borers, burrows filled with mud and Mn encrustations. Several generations of limestone can be recognized planktonic forams are diffused throughout matrix. Conglomerate type 2: Rounded basalt pebbles in matrix of phosphatized brownish biorudite with algal and foram bioclasts and biosomata partly filled by sparite (cement) and some fresh forams filled with micrite. Matrix very similar to some samples of dredge 2 and to pebbles in sediment in dredge 17. All basalt elements pl or pl-ol phyric pillow basalt (one sample with ~30 % pl phenocrysts). Remarks: Most samples exhibit freshly broken surfaces without Mn coatings and are hence probably in situ. |
