Description:1. Manganese encrusted, nodules, pebbles, subangular to sub-rounded (generally the latter) ranging in size from 2 to 20 mm; the mean size approximates 15 mm. Some polished and well rounded. Lithologies of the pebble nuclei are generally clay although a variety of igneous trachytic, granite, fine-grained basaltic and acid porphyritic bodies are also present. Smaller pebbles often aglutenated to larger ones with manganese cement. 2. A minor amount of gravel and coarse sand material is also present. Gravel grains generally subangular, consists of lithic fragments and are extensively coated with manganese like layer bodies above. Sand is generally angular, medium to very coarse sized quartz grains with more rounded lithic fragments (shale, dark mafics etc.) intermixed. Manganese coating is generally absent on the particles in this size range. A minute amount of fine flakey calcareous bryozoa fragments is minor in proportion. 3. One large, gray, silty, sub-rounded clay cobble. Manganese crust is poorly developed. Quartz grains, lithic (shale ?) fragments and possible glass grains observed within the clay matrix on a fresh surface. Negative reaction to dilute hydrochloric acid. By E. Dahlberg.
